Golden Tickets

Tickets
Source: www.sulit.com.ph

Any basketball fan here in the Philippines dreams of seeing the big games live at the venue. Yet, the harsh reality is that only a handful gets to do so. Among those lucky people are 1) those with lots of connections, 2) those who are willing to buy from the so- called “scalpers”, and 3) those who will line- up for three hours or so just to get whatever tickets are left. Then, as for the rest, well… I guess, there is always the television and there is no better way but to just settle with that.:(

In a few days, a bunch of NBA players will go up against the Smart- Gilas Philippine National Team. Of course, everyone wants to see it live and in person but that will not really happen. Most fans who patiently lined up for hours got upper B and general admission tickets for their efforts. I suppose the rest of the tickets from Patron to Lower Box and Upper A went to those with connections. The really ironic and sad part is how some of these people with connections do not really give a damn about basketball and yet, they are the ones who will be inside the Big Dome in a few days.

Life, in general, is very much like the whole process of getting those golden tickets. Most people who badly want to get those tickets end up with nothing. On the other hand, there are some people who end up with tons of tickets even if they didn’t really want to have them in the first place.

We may say that life sucks and that life is unfair. Yet, honestly, not getting everything that we want is definitely, the MOST UNDERRATED blessing in our lives. If all of us get everything that we want, then there is really no more point in living. In fact, this reality helps us see that we do not really NEED everything that we WANT to have. In the first place, most of these so- called “WANTS” are really nothing but mere WANTS. In other words, we can live without them.

Professor Nina De Guzman, who was one of my favorite professors in college, once told me that if there was a point in time that I didn’t get something that I really wanted to have, it just simply means that it wasn’t really meant for me. It shouldn’t really stop me from living my life and I just have to move on from it. The same concept applies for not getting a ticket for the game. I guess, it just wasn’t really meant for me. And if that is the case, then so be it. Still, if you have any extra tickets for the game that you want to give out, I’m still very much willing to accept them.:) Joke!:) Haha.:)

Anyway, more than the tickets, what really matters is for us to have a paradigm shift from always having what we want to just simply, wanting what we have. And if we can do this, then I am very sure that even if we end up with NO Golden Tickets, we will all still end up smiling and still be happy about everything.:)

  1. Kinda got hurt by this article. Considering the fact that I was only able to watch games (in another league) by getting free tickets. Anyways, thanks for the wake-up call about wanting what we have.

  3. Righto! And I think that if you don't get that *something* which you really want, it's probably because it's destined to be given to someone who deserved it more. ^_^
