2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant
When the 2013-2014 season started, everyone focused on all the players potentially coming back BIG and making up for lost time. Kobe coming back from a torn achilles tendon; Rondo and D-Rose from their ACL injuries; and Russel Westbrook from a torn meniscus to name a few.
Ironically, the season did not really revolve around these storylines. Rather, it became a Kevin Durant versus LeBron James show. It was a classic mano-a-mano between the greatest players in the world. Yet, slowly but surely, KD separated himself from the King and erased any doubts regarding his MVP bid.
When KD was named MVP, no one questioned it. Even King James himself never hesitated to express his admiration for KD's game. He literally earned it.
Yet, KD's acceptance speech revealed how truly valuable he is not just as a basketball player but more importantly, as a person. He never forgot to thank and to acknowledge, all the people who helped him throughout his basketball journey. He praised all his teammates, coaches and the most touching of all, his mother. Kevin Durant gave his mother the best gift any child can give to his/her parents. He turned out to be a God- fearing, humble and wonderful person. Someone who puts others first before himself. Someone who embodies what humility and selflessness is all about.
Kevin Durant will not his win his first NBA title this year. It will most likely be the King who will be crowned for the third consecutive year. But I am pretty sure, people will never forget how Kevin Durant showed the whole world that he is not just a superb player but a much even better person.
