May 2, 2015 will go down in history as the day Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao finally had their much anticipated (probably overly- hyped) Fight of the Century. Yet, for San Antonio Spurs fans, they would most likely remember it as the day their beloved defending champion Spurs lost to the LAC via a running one handed floater by an injured Chris Paul in an epic Game 7 for the ages. It propelled the Clippers to the second round and the Spurs got eliminated early even though they looked like the team that could have easily gone all the way.

Yes, I am saying this because they had the tools to beat the Warriors. Yet, instead of dwelling in the past or complaining about the whole division winner rule (which by the way, was changed already by Commisioner Silver), they just moved on and prepared a gameplan for the offseason. Fast forward to two months later from that day they lost to the Clips, they handily re-signed Defensive Player of the Year Kawhi Leonard ($90 M), Sharpshooter Danny Green ($45 M) and Future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan (probably around $6 M). They also traded away Tiago Splitter to the Hawks and let Marco Bellinelli walk away and sign with the Kings. They did all of this to eventually land the marquee player of this year's free agency LaMarcus Aldridge. Talk about moving on pretty well. Forget about last season, the Spurs look very poise to go back and win it all again.

Charles Barkley just said on NBA gametime that "The Spurs just showed why they are the best organization in the NBA." Former Detroit Piston Bad Boy Rick Mahorn agreed as well with Sir Charles as he also said on Gametime that "He (L.A.) fits perfectly into the San Antonio Spurs." And honestly, I agree with them 100%. This allows the San Antonio Spurs to continue its legacy of excellence. They always have a championship mentality. They do it the right way. They draft players well. They develop them and turn them into all stars or quality role players. Gregg Popovich is the best coach in the league. So, don't be surprised if eventually the Spurs get back the elusive Larry O' Brien trophy. It was indeed a great 4th of July for the Spurs as LaMarcus Aldridge decided to come home to Texas.
